A touch of art for your kitchen
Each of these stylish salt and pepper grinders features traditional symbols of significance to the Indigenous people of the Northwest coast. Their designs are the creations of West Coast artist Mark Garfield and First Nations artist Kelly Robinson.
Mark Garfield grew up in British Columbia and became interested in carving at a young age. His carving style reflects a modern approach to traditional art, and his work features in collections around the world. Kelly Robinson also hails from British Columbia, where he experienced First Nations art from an early age. He studied jewelry making at Native Education College in Vancouver, and learned carving skills from First Nations artists.
The designs include a Chief wearing ceremonial clothing including his Chilkat blankets (available in rosewood or slate colors). There’s also a Haida Princess in her beautiful ceremonial outfit (available in rosewood or slate colors), a design featuring the Raven (available in rosewood or slate colors), who is a very important symbol to the Indigenous people of the Northwest coast. He is believed to be a helper to the Creator, and the ‘keeper of secrets’ who symbolizes knowledge and the subtlety of truth.
Then there is the Moose. Not necessarily an indigenous design per se, but nevertheless a beloved animal and symbol of the north woods.
These salt and pepper grinders will look absolutely stunning on your dining table or kitchen counter.
